For the working actor to continue learning strategies for establishing a career in the performing arts. Clients will learn by undergoing various types of mock auditions each class and will round out their training by performing in front of a panel of experts once a month.

Sherie is an award-winning American actress, singer and writer. She is a co-founder of Grammy winning Sh-K-Boom Records and Ghostlight Records and has appeared in numerous Off-Broadway and Broadway musicals and plays appears on many solo and original cast recordings. She most recently starred as Pepa in the Broadway musical adaptation of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, fresh off of her performance in Everyday Rapture, for which she co-wrote the book. Other credits include Ursula in Disney's The Little Mermaid, Amneris in Aida, and Cathy in The Last Five Years, among many others.

Transition Skills Auditioning The business of the business

Providing clients with specific tools, skills and strategies to become a working professional.

Julio is a Broadway performer-turned-audition coach and career consultant.

His greatest joy comes from helping people to discover their unique talents and create a plan of action that maximizes each of these. His company, The Transition Workshop, takes them beyond talent to the truth of how the industry works, and helps them to discover their place within it. TTW does this by providing practical "take action" guideposts, guaranteeing the transition from struggling artist to working professional .

Mission Statement :

I strive to provide students and clients with strategies, skills, and tools for transitioning from struggling artist to working professional. Although the strategies are specifically formulated for performing artists, they are universal and can be used to move one from "there" to "here." With over 15 years as an actor, Broadway performer, director, and audition coach, I have coached clients working on and off-Broadway, in regional theatre and touring companies. Experienced, connected, and supportive -- these are my unique gifts to my clients.

Heather Parcells recognizes Julio's versatility in coaching everyone from beginners, to Broadway vets. Heather played "Judy Turner" in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line, and has extensive professional and touring credits including the role of Velma Kelly in Chicago. "Julio, aside from being an acclaimed performer, is the consommate professional and career coach. He not only inspires young and veteran performers to achieve their goals, but he does so with an approach that forces them to access their career from a different and more positive perspective."

Lisa Marie Persaud has brought Julio's advice into the audition room, and found it works! You may have seen her recently on a Disney Channel commercial. "The one thing I learned from Julio that keeps propelling me is, that in this business, you have to stay positive. There will be many ups and downs, but if you know the direction you want to go in, you can't let the small things make you loose track of your goals. He's taught me about self management, building bridges, following up and going the extra mile-- all the essentials of being a working actor. I've learned so much about technique and character development through Julio's classes and I'm proud to say that it has helped me to develop into a stronger actor. Two things Julio always told me was, one, "make a choice" and two, " the CD's in the audition room want you to get the job, they want you to be the right actor for the role"-- when I walk into an audition room, these two notes carry me a long way. The lessons I've learned through Julio I will never forget-- I integrate them into every step I take toward reaching my goals. Julio has been an ongoing inspiration to me, as a friend, and a mentor. "

JMartin Jess Martin has made a transition from student to professional, making moves towards becoming a working artist in New York City. The secret? Preparation and confidence, given the edge of having studied under Julio Matos. She spent Summer 2011 in TN, workshopping three new children's musicals at Dollywood, and performing with Dolly Parton herself. Immediately after, she took off on her first national tour with Artspower's "Jigsaw Jones & the Case of the Class Clown." With Julio's guidance, she looks forward to what 2012 will bring! "Julio's individualized coachings bridge the gap between the knowledge and training acquired through formal education and applying those skills towards actually working in the business. Julio provides insight with experience and makes 'breaking into the business' not a daunting idea, rather just another step on your personal career path."

EMcNerney Erin McNerney found that Julio's workshop helped her transition back into performing. She recently played Velma Kelly in a regional production of CHICAGO. "I just wanted to give you a note of thanks. Your workshop this summer really was a beautiful kick-start for me transitioning back into the performing side of things. Your help and advice has always been supportive and sound. Sunday, I sang for American Music Theatre of Lancaster, casting their season. I performed my audition song. Performed it! Was called back to dance the next day. Kicked the dance calls butt. Performed it. Left feeling very proud of myself and very thankful. A very positive 1st audition of the season.I have transitioned.I am confident that if I keep bringing that side of myself to auditions (and, really, whats the point in going backwards and not bringing that side of myself to the audition? DClermont Danhy Clermont found Julio's individualized voice coachings helped her discover new possibilities in her vocal range. She recently appeared as Sylvia, in a regional production of All Shook Up.
